It was a wrap for campaigners who brought a “Wool Against Weapons” message to Skipton’s High Street.
Local Quakers, members of Grassington and District Peace Group and CND members wrapped specially knitted pieces of pink wool around the statue of Sir Matthew Wilson, Skipton’s first MP, while they asked passers-by to sign a petition calling for the Trident missile system to be scrapped and for the money saved to be spent on the NHS.
In August pieces of wool from around the country will be taken to the atomic weapons establishment at Aldermaston, Berkshire, and an attempt will be made to stretch them seven miles to another nuclear weapons site at Burghfield.
