A pupil at South Craven School in Cross Hills is having her head shaved to raise money for Cancer Research UK.
Bertie Vann, 16, hopes the lock-lopping will take place at the year 11 prom next month.
She aims to raise at least £500 through sponsorship and will be donating her hair to the Little Princess Trust, which provides wigs to youngsters who have lost their own hair due to cancer treatment.
“A family friend has been diagnosed with cancer and I wanted to do something,” said Bertie, who lives at Farnhill.
“People have read about the head shave on Facebook and the fundraising is going really well. My hair grows quickly so I’m hoping to have plenty to take off!”
The plan is for the head shave to take place at the prom on June 27. GCSE student Bertie is currently sitting her exams and then hopes to enrol on an animal-studies course at Craven College, Skipton. Ultimately she would like to work in falconry.
