Silsden Town Council is looking into taking over running the town’s public toilets.
Chairman Chris Atkinson is leading efforts to keep the conveniences in Bridge Street open despite Bradford Council cutbacks.
Silsden is teaming up with neighbouring Addingham Parish Council to look at working together to save on running costs of the communities’ two toilets.
The toilets are among several across Bradford district that are earmarked for closure due to cuts in public spending.
Coun Atkinson said his members felt it was their duty to investigate running the toilet block, which is in the car park of the Punch Bowl pub.
He said: “There is a lot of concern about the potential closure of the toilets.
“There are a lot of issues to consider, such as the running costs, who opens and closes them, and the current dilapidated state.”
Catherine Coates, chairman of Addingham Parish Council, said one problem was that the parish councils would have to pay business rates for the buildings.
