Amanda Owen, author of The Yorkshire Shepherdess, will be in Ingleton on Bank Holiday Monday.

She has agreed to take part in a Meet the Author event at Ingleborough Community Centre to help raise money for the village’s open-air swimming pool.

Amanda – seen on ITV’s The Dales programme - has just published her first book, which tells the story of her life as a modern day James Herriot and mother of seven.

Although launched last month, it has already reached number five on the Sunday Times Bestseller List.

Aged 39, former city girl Amanda runs a 2,000-acre hill farm in Swaledale and is a full time shepherdess tending 1,000 sheep with her farmer husband Clive. She is also a working mother with seven children between the ages of eight months and 13 years.

The Meet the Author event will start at 2.30pm and tickets are £5. Copies of the book are also available from Totsongs Etcetera, on Main Street, Ingleton.
