Villagers turned out in force to support a lottery funded sports pavilion project.

Burton-in-Lonsdale recently received £50,000 from Sport England’s Inspired Facilities Fund.

And to help the village reach its target, the annual fun run was held once again - with more than 50 children and adults taking part.

The event, on the village recreation ground, was also a chance for people to sign up to a number of new sports clubs being set up as part of the sports pavilion project.

“It was great to see so many youngsters taking part, but also adults of all ages and speeds,” said Mark Christie, secretary of the Burton Regeneration Group, joint organisers with the parish council.

“Events like these cannot be successful, however, without a huge team effort, putting up banners, signage, balloons, marquees, bunting, organising refreshments and cakes for sale, preparing the pitch, supplying first aid cover, and all the other important factors that go into making days like this such a satisfying experience for all concerned.”

Despite threats of rain, the event was declared a success, raising £122 towards the project, which now stands at more than £73,000.

Villagers hope the pavilion will be built by the end of the year.
