Visitors and workers at Airedale Hospital have been encouraged to talk about end of life.

Staff joined forces with public and voluntary organisations to highlight some of the issues surrounding the subject, as part of the national Dying Matters awareness week.

There was focus on the importance of writing a will, recording funeral wishes, planning future care and support, registering as an organ donor and telling loved ones your wishes.

Among those present were representatives of the NHS trust’s palliative care team and health information service, Age UK, Manorlands, the Carers’ Resource, Cruse, solicitors firms and faith groups.

Visitors were invited to take part in a "bucket list" and write down one thing they wanted to do before they died.

“The bucket list was full of ‘wishes’ – some funny, some light-hearted, some very profound – but it made lots of people think and talk together,” said Karen Dunwoody, patient experience lead for Airedale NHS Foundation Trust.

“We are grateful to all who took part in the event.”
