BUDDING archaeologists were among those getting a close look at the past on the Bordley Big Dig last week.
Children from Upper Wharfedale School and other schools in the area worked on the project, based at Bordley Hall Farm outside Hetton, throughout last week.
Along with excavation techniques, they learned learned survey techniques and how to catalogue and archive finds, as well as interpretation of the historic landscape.
Archaeological director Janis Heward said: "We had a few dozen pupils joining the adults on the dig over the week and they seemed to enjoy themselves immensely. The Big Dig was the latest event in the ongoing Bordley Township Project, which has been the investigating the historic landscape of the area for the past five years."
