MOLLY Bangert and Dennis the Dragon helped university students Vicky Thwaite and Hannah Jackson to sell cakes baked by children, parents, staff and governors of High Bentham Community Primary School.

Vicky and Hannah, who are studying at the University of Cumbria, had hoped to travel to Mombasa next week to work with the charity Education for Life, but, because of the troubles in Kenya, their trip has been delayed.

The girls are working with children from High Bentham to raise money for Tumaini School and the cake sale raised £45.

Headteacher Catherine Boocock said that the school was delighted to be part of the efforts to help schoolchildren in Mombasa.

“Global is a key word for our school and Vicky and Hannah have shown the children, in a very practical way, that they can help children who live on a different continent and have very different lives to theirs. The work on Kenya will teach the Bentham pupils about issues in other parts of the world.”
