TWO enterprising Rainbow Leaders from Malham have just walked 110 miles across North Yorkshire to raise money for a new bursary fund.

Debbie Gomersall and Rose Turner set out from Hammerton Station and walked to the Lancashire border with a grand finish on the summit of Ingleborough.

Travelling through Harrogate, Ripon, Skipton and Malham, they were greeted and entertained by Guide and Rainbow groups en route and took part in yoga, scavenger hunts and sausage sizzles.

They also devised a challenge with its own special Walk the County badge to generate interest and provide further funds.

On their final day they were joined by other Skipton and Malhamdale leaders to tackle the Yorkshire peak in the mist and rain.

Debbie and Rose said: “It’s been an amazing fortnight with lots of ‘first’ experiences for both of us. We’d like to thank everyone who helped us and offered support along the way.”

Debbie and Rose, who run the 1st Malhamdale Rainbows and Brownies who meet in Gargrave, gave up their holiday to complete the walk and raise money for the new Pegasus Fund.

It will provide funds for girls disadvantaged by either financial circumstances or disability to take part in trips and events.
