A COMMUNITY action day has helped grow flowers and funds for Barnoldswick in Bloom.

The group organised hands on activities planting flowers, sold plants and ran a ‘Blooming Healthy café at the Rainhall Centre last Saturday.

“Members of the public, including lots of children, helped complete planting 17 hanging baskets with plants donated by Gledstone Gardens,” said Barnoldswick in Bloom secretary Lindsay Gaskell. “At the same time, other volunteers sold hand reared plants and ran the healthy eating café, with Liddells Bakery donating some wonderful Barlick Bread baked in flower pots. The activities raised £180 for bloom funds.

“Saturday’s community action day was one of several taking place in the run-up to judging in the regional Britain in Bloom event on July 8. Other community action days are being held each Thursday (from 6.30pm) and Sunday (from 9.30am). Everyone is welcome, just turn up on the day.

“Volunteers are also working at other times during the week and always welcome help to get the town looking its best. Anyone interested in getting involved can also contact the group on Facebook, by emailing barnoldswickinbloom@gmail.com or phoning 01282 816936.”
