Two Barnoldswick councillors visited Pendle’s Pupil Parliament recently to hear young people's thoughts about how the borough can be improved.

Pendle’s youngest councillor, 18-year-old Lyle Davy (Cons, Coates), and Cllr Jenny Purcell (Cons, Craven), the portfolio holder for communities, attended the session alongside deputy leader of Pendle Conservatives, Cllr Paul White

The Pupil Parliament is made up of representatives from schools across Pendle, and issues discussed included new play equipment, road safety, dog fouling and exploitation in football. It met at the borough's headquarters at Nelson Town Hall.

Cllrs Davy and White spoke to the group about their work on the council, and made a speech about the importance of involving young people in democracy. They also spoke about the dangers social media.

After the meeting Lyle said: “I was genuinely very impressed with students at the Pendle Pupil Parliament. They came across very strongly, and I certainly learnt a few things, like child exploitation in the making of footballs.

“They conducted themselves in a much more graceful manner than that of full council the night before, and I think we could all learn something from that!”
