Installing a life-saving defibrillator machine in Barnoldswick and Earby town centres is being arranged by Barnoldswick and Earby Rotary Club. The machines can be used in cases of cardiac arrests to restart heart beats, and the rotary club is holding a quiz night to help meet the cost. It will be held in St Joseph’s Parish Centre, in Bolland Street, Barnoldswick, on Friday, June 27, at 7.30pm and will include a pie and peas supper, licensed bar and raffle. At the weekly meeting of the club, incoming president Geoffrey Atkins outlined his programme for the coming year including a need for publicity for the club, youth initiatives, help for charities and the rotary technical tournament, plus good meetings and speakers. A tribute and thanks were extended to Martin Chalmers for his work as president for the last two years. Assistant district governor Miles Leadbeater spoke of the Light up Rotary theme for the year involving sharing service, strengthening clubs and a positive approach to membership.
