NORTH Craven vicar Ian Greenhalgh will be using pedal power to raise money for his four parishes.

Ian, who is in charge of churches in Austwick, Clapham, Keasden and Eldroth, will tackle the 170-mile Way of the Roses with his 29-year-son, Tom, next month.

Each year, the two men take part in a joint physical challenge, although last year's plans had to be shelved after Ian underwent a hernia operation.

Ian said: "I am looking forward to this year's ride. I just hope we get some decent weather."

The Way of the Roses passes through Craven en route from Morecambe to Bridlington and the Greenhalghs hope to complete it in three days.

"The challenge is particularly appropriate as I am a Lancastrian by birth but live in Yorkshire," said Ian, who hopes to raise about £4,000.

Any donations can be sent to Austwick vicarage, with cheques made payable to Austwick Church.
