AFTER a record number of votes and hundreds of nominations the public has crowned The Woolly Sheep in Skipton as Yorkshire’s Favourite Pub 2014.
The pub was announced as the winner at the Great Yorkshire Show 2014.
The competition – run by tourism agency Welcome to Yorkshire – began in March and the first round of voting saw the public nominate around 750 pubs who collectively attracted almost 5,500 votes.
The top 30 most popular pubs have also been featured in a new Yorkshire Ale Trail.
And after a final round of voting between the 10 most popular pubs, a winner was found and TV star Gaynor Faye was on hand to present the trophy to The Woolly Sheep.
Gary Verity, chief executive of Welcome to Yorkshire, said: “The overwhelming response that we've had to this ever more popular competition is testament to the popularity and importance of pubs across Yorkshire. To make the top 30 is a huge achievement and every pub can be rightly proud of going so far in this competition.
"To win this accolade takes some doing, especially with the vast array of quality, popular pubs we have right across Yorkshire. It’s a glowing reference for the winner to the warm welcome, great food and real ales this pub serves up day in, day out.”
