LONG Preston Heritage Group will celebrate the links between Long Preston, Bolton Priory and Skipton Castle on Saturday.

The three communities are connected through the Augustinian order of monks, who developed its first priory on castle-owned land in Embsay before moving to Bolton Abbey in 1154.

And the order's last prior before the dissolution of monasteries in 1939 was Richard Moon, whose family rented land from the monks in Long Preston.

The links are researched in a new book, The Monk's Story, which will be launched at Saturday's celebrations, which will run from 3pm to 5pm.

It will also include organ music, an exhibition of the heritage group's research project and refreshments in Prior Moon’s tower.

All are welcome.
