A SPECIAL celebration was staged at Farnhill Methodist Church to mark the long service of three ministers.

The Rev Kenneth Beardsley has clocked up 60 years, and the Rev Jennifer Lunn and Rev Alan Raine 40 each.

They spoke briefly about how they were called to the ministry and recounted interesting incidents from their service, much of which has been in the Craven area.

Ms Lunn, who was born in Eastburn, was a deaconess for 11 years before becoming one of the first women to be ordained in British Methodism.

Mr Beardsley has served mainly in Yorkshire and the north, and Mr Raine in several areas.

A large congregation from across the circuit attended the celebratory service, which included a rendition on the organ – by Mr J Taylor – of the Easter Hymn from Cavalleria Rustcana.

Superintendent minister the Rev Ruth Crompton concluded the formal proceedings by congratulating and thanking the three ministers.

A buffet supper was provided in the lower church hall.
