THE euphoria of the Tour de France was enjoyed across Craven, with several schools and groups holding events.

Pupils at Thornton-in-Craven Primary School held their own cycle challenge at their Le Tour-themed summer fun day, which was organised by the PTA to help raise funds for new laptops.

The children took part in a cycle challenge along the disused railway line between Thornton and Earby and enjoyed a picnic and barbecue on the village field and a family disco in the marquee.

Children at Addingham Primary School delivered a massive art project on their school field .

Working with Dr Abigail Harrison Moore, head of Leeds University's School of Fine Art, History of Art and Cultural Studies (FAHACS) and alumna Nicola Bayntun, children in years three to six created pastel drawings based on what it felt like to ride a bike fast and these were pulled together to produce a final design.

Hilary Gallacher, headteacher at Addingham Primary School, said: "We have all been incredibly impressed by the quality of the designs and the wonderful way the children have engaged with the project."

Youngsters at Skipton's Otley Street Nursery School celebrated Le Tour de France by holding their own mini competition.

All the children were challenged to see how many times they could ride around the playground in one minute. The winners were Stanley Davis and Malackai Balderson, who received yellow t-shirts.

Cross Hills Social Club raised at least £1,120 for Manorlands with its Tour de France themed fundraiser.

Committee members and staff dressed up in costumes and were sponsored £1 per minute to ride on an exercise bike.

And Silsden AFC welcomed campers from home and abroad.

Among them was Russell Brooks, a former British and world champion rally driver, who presented the club with a signed photo and expression of thanks.
