AN ANNUAL challenge day in the Dales has raised a whacking £45,000 for hospice care.

The event was the sixth hosted by the Coniston Hotel, at Coniston Cold, in aid of the Manorlands Sue Ryder hospice in Oxenhope.

Twenty-six four-strong teams took part in a range of activities including Land Rover handling, clay pigeon shooting, falconry, archery and target golf.

There was a hog roast supper and drinks, a quiz and raffle.

And an auction featured lots such as a tour of Timothy Taylor brewery in Keighley and a day's sailing on Windermere, which each sold for £2,500.

Over the years the event has now raised more than £220,000 for Manorlands.

Hospice fundraisers thank the Bannister family, which owns the Coniston Hotel, and all those who donated their services on the day.

Rachel Cunningham and Carly Brunskill, for Manorlands, said: "The Coniston Challenge Day is an absolutely fantastic event and would not be possible without the support of the Coniston Hotel, the estate's activity providers and the Keighley Manorlands Challenge Committee.

"We are so grateful for the continuing support given to our local services through this event.”
