YOUNG football players have been practising their dribbling skills - covering a distance from Skipton to Manchester.

The Skipton Town Girls, from the under 15s, under 13s, under 11s and under nine teams, each dribbled one or two miles around the Sandylands Sports Centre grass pitches.

And joining them in their 50.9 mile dribble-a-thon - the exact distance to Manchester United's Old Trafford ground - was Lindsey Whitton, from Leeds United FC.

"The girls are currently collecting their sponsor money so we aren’t sure on the amount raised but all the girls had a great day.," said the club's Katie Hoggarth.

"As well as this the Skipton Girls under 14s young leaders delivered an open training session for seven to 12 year olds which went really well and saw Skipton welcome more players to the club."

She added: "It was a great day which all the players thoroughly enjoyed and we'll be looking to host similar events in the future."
