THE sky cleared just in time for this year’s Proms on the Farm.

Revellers turned out in force to enjoy a varied evening of entertainment at Sycamore Farm above Silsden.

They listened to 1960s covers from The Big Bang, who have been performing for almost three decades, and brass and Last Night of the Proms favourites from the Skelmanthorpe Band, which is one of the oldest brass bands in the country, formed in 1843, and i has shared the stage with celebrities like Katherine Jenkins and Aled Jones.

Soloist was Sarah Halstead, who has performed the Royal Albert Hall. However she said she looked forward to the Proms on the Farm each year.

The event, held in the hamlet of Brunthwaite, raised money for Manorlands and Silsden Methodist Church

The organising team of Rosalie Holroyd, Stuart Hanson, Fiona Hanson and Sylvia Atkinson were supported by a host of local businesses and individuals.

Rosalie said the Proms had a core of fans who went along every year, while others travelled from far and wide.

She said: “We were delighted to see so many people there after we’d had that terrific thunderstorm and downpour on Saturday.

“Once the Deputy Lord Mayor of Bradford announced the opening of the concert, the clouds cleared. It was unbelievable.

“The atmosphere was wonderful, everyone was really friendly. The auction was fantastic and made a lot of money – someone bid £600 for a picture.”

Ruth Crompton, the minister at Silsden Methodist Church, said proceeds of the Proms would help the church’s local community activities.

She said: “In particular we are looking to launch a Well-Being Cafe to work alongside the vulnerable and isolated in our town.”
