SKIPTON Civic Society has joined forces with the town's Holy Trinity Church to stage an exhibition about the town and its people during and after the First World War.

And there is also information about the war memorial, which stands at the top of High Street.

Press cuttings (mostly from the Craven Herald) and photographs will show how Skipton reacted to the outbreak of war, follow the experiences of some of the soldiers and tell how the decision was made to build the war memorial.

A copy of Craven's Part in the Great War will be available for visitors to browse.

There will also be a visitors' book for people to record any thoughts or memories stirred up by exhibition and the long list of names of those who lost their lives.

The exhibition will run from Sunday to Saturday, August 30, and will be open from 9.30am to 4pm Monday to Saturday and 1pm to 5.30pm on Sundays. Admission is free and any donations will be split between Help for Heroes and Holy Trinity Church.

There will also be a "walk, talk and tea" at the church on Sunday, August 17, starting at 2.30pm.
