POLICE are appealing for help in tracking down those responsible for breaking the window of a mini-bus used to transport disabled people.

The red Renault mini-bus, which had been parked overnight in Settle, has been rendered out of action after a large stone was thrown through one of its windows.

Owned by North Yorkshire County Council, the vehicle was used to take severely disabled children and adults to day centres and on trips out.

It had been parked overnight between 4.30pm on Friday (Aug 1) and 12.30pm on Saturday in Greenfoot Car Park, Lower Greenfoot.

“The mini-bus is used to take severely disabled children and adults to day centres and for days out.," said Pc Tony Ingram, of Settle Safer Neighbourhood Team.

“It is now out of action and unable to transport anyone while it undergoes repairs, all because of a mindless act of vandalism.

"We need to find out who carried out this act of criminal damage and I am appealing to anyone who knows anything about the incident to contact the police without delay.”

It is understood that a party was held at North Ribblesdale Rugby Club on Friday night and party-goers who attended the event, may have witnessed what happened or have information about the incident.

If you were a guest at the rugby club party, we urge you to contact the police as your information could be important to the investigation.

Anyone with information is asked to contact North Yorkshire Police on 101, select option 2 and ask for PC Tony Ingram or email tony.ingram@northyorkshire.pnn.police.uk

Information can also be passed anonymously to Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111, quoting reference 1214013.
