HERE'S your chance to honour those who make Craven a greener place in the district Community Champions awards.

The Greener Craven Award will be given to people who make an outstanding contribution towards the local environment.

The award celebrates the achievements of a group or individual who has done something to improve the quality of our environment.

This could be anything from cleaning up a space in your town or village to inventing an app that helps people reduce their carbon footprint; from starting a veg swap scheme to organising a clothes swap; from setting up a fuel co-operative to developing an educational programme about the environment.

It doesn’t matter how big or small your project is, it’s about the quality and the difference made to the local area. A panel of judges will be looking for a group or individual who has;

• Motivated and inspired others to get involved

• Made a positive difference and how they have improved the environment for their community

• Actively promoted environmental issues within their community

Craven District Council’s Waste Management Service are proudly sponsoring the Greener Craven Award 2014. Skipton Civic Society were awarded Green Champions 2013 for their hard work and dedication to transforming Gawflat Meadow, which is adjacent to Aireville Park. The Civic Society turned what was once neglected and unused meadow land into a conservations site for the benefit of the whole community. The meadow now provides somewhere to see wildflowers and grasses and the wildlife that goes with them. In 2013 Gawflat was also awarded Queen’s Field status giving it protection from development.
