SKIPTON opticians Benjamin's have set their sights on improving the early detection of eye problems.
The company is offering patients a revolutionary 3D screening process as part of their eye examinations. The new equipment for the process, known as Ocular Coherence Tomography, is the first in the Craven area.
Benjamin's director Liz Ellis said: " A regular eye test may have included a photograph of the back of the eye but OCT takes this a stage further by using a painless light beam, a little like ultrasound, to see below the surface of the back of your eyes.
"Combining the more common photograph with a 3D OCT scan, helps with early diagnosis of any underlying sight problems such as glaucoma, age-related macular degeneration, retinal detachment and diabetic retinopathy.
"OCT is particularly good at detecting problems in patients most at risk – people with health issues, the over forties and those with a family history of eye problems. Anyone concerned about their eyesight can call into the Newmarket Street practice and book an appointment for a small charge in addition to the regular eye test which may be free through the NHS."
