THIS year marks the centenary of the Brownies and as part of the Big Brownie Birthday celebrations, young members of all ages in the Settle area held a family evening.

The girls enjoyed a barbecue and rounders but the climax of the evening was the girls doing a conga around the aisles of Booth’s Supermarket.

Guides, Brownies and Rainbows all had great fun, but there was a serious purpose. They also raised £86 for the Clapham-based Cave Rescue Organisation, which performs local fell rescues as well as cave rescue.

Brownies from the new unit in Settle are particularly keen to support the charity as their leader’s husband is a CRO volunteer!

Taking part in the venture also went towards the community section of the Big Brownie Birthday badge, which the girls are working on this year.

Girlguiding Skipton and Settle Division welcomes new members of all ages and is looking for new adult volunteers. Leaders are needed across the area, but particularly in Long Preston where the leader is standing down after 20 years service to both Rainbows and Brownies.
