SILSDEN groups are holding a celebration event to continue the legacy of the Tour de France.

They hope that all the town’s voluntary and community groups will take part in the showcase on October 11.

During the morning event at St James’s Church, there will be tour-related activities, as well as an opportunity for groups to highlight what they do.

The event is being organised by Churches Together in Silsden and the Silsden Tour de France committee, which coordinated activities before and during the Tour ride through the town on July 5.

The Rev David Griffiths, priest at St James’s Church, said: “We hope the event will have all the voluntary and community groups in, or serving, Silsden, promoting and celebrating their work and recruiting members.”

Silsden people will present knitted mini Tour jerseys, which were used as bunting on Tour day, to Mission Direct so they can be worn by babies in Africa.

Organisers are also collecting bicycles from around the Silsden area so they can be reused.
