MEMBERS of Craven's two rescue groups travelled to North Wales on Saturday to assist a diver who had collapsed beyond a long flooded passage in the disused Aber Las Mine.
The Clapham-based Cave Rescue Organisation helped to co-ordinate the operation, calling out rescue divers from around the UK, and supplied on-scene dive control.
A small team and diving equipment were flown by RAF helicopter from Clapham to the mine near Llangollen while further air bottles and personnel travelled by road.
Upper Wharfedale Fell Rescue also provided a diver plus technical equipment
Unfortunately a body was located 300 metres into the passageway and was recovered by divers from the Cave Diving Group, which includes members from Craven.
