THE clock was turned back at Burnsall Feast Sports on Saturday.

Starting the races was Bob Newbould, who won the classic fell race in 1939, and presenting the prizes was Shirley Hodgson, who was attending her 50th consecutive sports.

This year's fell race winner was Appletreewick runner Ted Mason, who dominated throughout. He was first to the top of the hill and achieved the fastest descent.

It is not the first time he has triumphed at the event as he also took top honours in 2011.

There was also a convincing team win for Wharfedale Harriers, nearly 30 points ahead of nearest rivals Mercia Fell Runners.

The ten-mile road race was won by Matt Whitfield, of Bristol and West AC. He crossed the finish line in 54.22 - more than a minute in front of second-placed Mike Jeffries.

The stalls on the Green did excellent business, ensuring local charities benefited from the day, and first prize in the raffle went to the Clark family of Burnsall, the second prize to Julie Fletcher and the third prize to local girl Hannah Stockdale.

In the absence of the Rev Fiona Jenkins, local resident Ed Williams concluded the proceedings in traditional style with a mass hymn singing and blessing.
