AN impressive more than £4,000 was raised at an annual police quiz and auction night held in Skipton.

Quiz teams and supporters of the Craven and Harrogate Police Charity Fund met at the Rendezvous Hotel for the event which resulted in £2,075 being donated to both the Yorkshire Air Ambulance and to the Petal Children's Cancer Research.

Fund supporter, 54-year-old Steve Barraclough, a Leeds based plumber, also ran the New York Marathon in four hours 50 minutes and donated an additional £1,000 to the air ambulance.

Detective Sergeant Steve Menzies, founder of the charity fund, said he would like to thank everyone who supported the event and also those who sponsored Steve.

“The fund’s motto is 'we make a difference because you care' and without the donations given by local people and businesses, along with people attending the events, then raising this magnificent amount of money wouldn’t be achieved," he said.

"The donations will have a positive impact on both saving lives and also supporting children suffering from such a devastating disease as the battle to eradicate childhood cancer continues”.
