Harry Maslen was in record-breaking form in the Yorkshire Combined Events Championships at Cleckheaton last weekend.

The 18-year-old Ilkley Harrier won the junior men’s title and broke the Yorkshire record with a points score of 6,110.

It was a fine performance from the Ilkley Grammar School student who was was competing in the age group for the first time.

He set six personal bests in the ten events and his points tally would have earned him third place in the senior men’s competition which was won by Adam Timms of Leeds AC.

His performance will put him in good heart for his next competition which is the English Schools Combined Events Championships in Boston, Lincolnshire on September 20.

His new personal best performances came in the long jump where he cleared 6.33metres, shot putt 11.09m, 110m hurdles15.51sec, discus 35.08m, pole vault 3.32 and javelin 45.71.

His other performances were 100m 11.70sec, high jump 1.87, 400m 54.4sec, 1,500m 4:58:4.

This is Maslen’s third county title. He demonstrated his all-round athletic ability when he won the Yorkshire octathlon competition in 2012 and 2013.

The combined event was held in tandem with the West Yorkshire Track and Field Championships.

Another Ilkley Harrier, Lucy Williamson, competed in the under-15s age group and won the 1,500 with a personal best and came third in the 800m
