MORE than a hundred people took to the footpaths of West Craven on Saturday to raise money for a local charity.

The West Craven Pub Walk, organised by Barnoldswick and Earby Bosom Friends cancer support group, was the first of its kind.

Although organisers were worried inclement weather might put people off, everyone who took part seemed to thoroughly enjoyed themselves on a route that took them through Barnoldswick, Earby, Kelbook, Foulridge and Salterforth.

The idea for the pub walk came from local resident Sharon Fenton, whose family has been touched by cancer.

Sharon said: “My mum and I had such a great time doing the Pendle Pub Walk for Pendleside Hospice, I thought as we have fantastic scenery and views even closer to home in West Craven, why not organise a similar event for another local charity that provides practical, emotional and financial support to anyone affected by any type of cancer in Pendle, Craven and the Ribble Valley area."

Catherine Oldfield, Bosom Friends trustee, said: “We are really grateful to everyone who took part and a special thanks must go to the pubs who offered refreshments and support to walkers as they went along and also the marshals.

"The event was such a success that it will definitely be an annual event in the Bosom Friends calendar. So far it has raised just over £1,700."
