CYCLING legend Sir Chris Hoy met pupils at Skipton Academy before he led a 108-mile bike ride that started and finished in the town.

Hundreds of cyclists joined the winner of six Olympic track gold medals on the Evans Cycles Hoy One Hundred Sportive ride through Craven and North Yorkshire. It helped to boost Sir Chris's nominated charity, the Scottish Association for Mental Health.

Many of the riders camped in the Academy grounds.

Sir Chris chatted to 10 pupils representing the school - and made a great impression, said the Academy''s Caroline Sowerbutts, one of the organisers.

She said: "They were really thrilled to meet Sir Chris and he put them very much at their ease - he is such a lovely man and could not have been more down-to-earth. He made sure he chatted to everyone and answered all their questions. It was a great way to mark

our move into a new era."
