A TEENAGER from Silsden produced the drive of her career to finish third in world championship for model stock cars.

Amelia Batty, 14, attended the World Championship for the 1/8th stock cars at Southern Oval Model Raceway in Hastings, which featured more than 70 competitors from across the UK and Holland.

After three qualifying rounds, Amelia made it through to the quarter-finals and semi-finals.

Amelia won her quarter-final race and finished third in the semi-final to qualify for the senior final.

In a hard fought final, Amelia came third behind eventual winner Julian Vaux, of Leicester and runner-up, former world champion and present European champion Mark Whittaker from Nottingham, who is Amelia’s mentor.

In the junior final, Amelia was leading when her car stalled. She returned to the track and came back to finish fourth.

“Amelia produced the drive of her racing career so far," said Amelia's dad, Dick Batty. "I always new she could drive but it was just unbelievable."

Amelia and her dad are members of the Northern Oval Racing Affiliation, based at Marley Stadium in Keighley.

Marley will be the venue for the sport's European championship, which is due to take place in May 2015.
