NEWCOMERS to the sixth form at South Craven School in Cross Hills took part in a range of challenges as part of an annual induction day.

Some tackled an assault course, while others built towers using spaghetti and marshmallow.

There was a chance to compose a song and groups debated who would rule if they were faced with a shipwreck scenario.

More than 200 year 12 students were involved in Friday's activities.

A school spokesman said: "We have 24 people new to our school who are joining the sixth form and the induction day is a way of introducing them to new friends and to help them feel part of the school.

"But also because of the size of the year, students don't always necessarily know others that well, so this is a chance for them to mix.

"It was a very successful day and everyone, including the tutors, really entered into the spirit of it."
