POLICE are no longer treating the death of a woman in Salterforth as suspicious.

Officers were called at shortly after 8am on Friday to a report of the sudden death of a woman on a canal barge at Salterforth, near to the Anchor Inn.

A 64-year-old man was arrested at the scene on suspicion of murder as an inquiry, led by the Force Major Investigation Team, was launched.

A post-mortem examination carried out on Victoria Lobley, 47, was inconclusive, but there was no evidence of any violence. It is believed at this stage that she died from a medical condition.

Police said the man who was arrested 64-year old-man arrested on suspicion of murder had been released without charge and a file would be prepared for the coroner.

Councillor Christine Pollard, chairman of Salterforth Parish Council, called the woman's death a "tragedy" and said that it had been a topic of conversation in the village since the incident happened.
