A COUPLE who discussed their plans to 'do a job' at while on the train to Skipton were overheard by a fellow passenger, magistrates were told.

Dean Begley, 28, and Jodie Walker, 22, went to Tesco supermarket with a foil-lined bag with the intention of stealing, but had come to their senses and left empty-handed, the Skipton court heard on Friday.

But they had been followed to the store by the member of the public who had informed a security guard who had then stopped them on their way out.

Begley and Walker, who both admitted going equipped for theft on August 26, were both heroin users and had needed the money to pay for drugs, the court heard.

Walker had started taking heroin to cope with a toothache and had become addicted.

While in Tesco, they had changed their minds about stealing, and had decided instead to get money by begging in Leeds, the court was told.

Begley and Walker, both of Brunswick House, Crosley Wood Road, Bingley, were given a 12-month community order with supervision and a six-month drug rehabilitation programme. They were also each fined £100, with costs of £85 and victims surcharge of £60. Magistrates ordered the confiscation of the foil-lined bags.
