QUAD bike accident victim Richard Pawson was flown home from Ibiza on Sunday and is recovering in Airedale Hospital.

The 22-year-old, of Flasby, was a pillion passenger when he was thrown from the bike and suffered serious head injuries.

He was in intensive care on neighbouring island Majorca for several days, and the cost of treatment in Spain plus the flight home has been estimated at around £14,000.

Richard, a drystone waller, was not insured, and friends and family have started a massive fundraising effort. He is being monitored in hospital to determine the full extent of his head injuries, though friends say he has already started rehabilitation work on his injured arm.

Friends and family have already raised £2,000 toward his costs and there is a fundraising night featuring four bands at the Black Horse in Skipton tomorrow.

There is also a Halloween fancy dress party on November 1 at the Venue in Skipton and the town's Castle Inn is holding a 'cake and coffee morning' on October 31.

Richard's friend Scott Hanson, of Silsden, said: "We are not exactly sure what he is going to need in the way of operations as they are doing constant brain scans to make sure there isn't any serious damage.

"Other than that he is walking around and being himself, though he could be in hospital for several weeks yet - we just don't know.

"His friends and his family would like to thank everyone who has contributed to the fund so far."
