AN Earby man's dedicated fundraising efforts have earned him an award.

Scott Clarkson has received the Shaw-Greening Award, presented annually to a local young person.

Cllr Chris Tennant, chairman of Earby Town Council, said the council unanimously voted for Scott because he had raised £4,500 for Pendleside Hospice.

"He's done a fantastic job to raise that amount of money," said Cllr Tennant. "It's a cause that is close to people's heart."

Cllr Vera Cocker added: "This year the award went to Scott for his service to the community and in particular for his magnificent fundraising efforts for Pendleside Hospice. He is a credit to us all."

Scott, who works for West Craven Insurance Services, raised the money with a head and beard shave, a men's topless car wash, a fun day and picking up and delivering takeaway food for a donation.

"He's a good lad, a live wire and he likes to laugh," said Cllr Tennant.

The Shaw-Greening Award was established in memory of Dick Shaw and Alfred Greening, long-serving members of Earby Urban District Council and Earby May Day Committee.
