CRAVEN Community and Voluntary Services (CCVS) has just celebrated its 30th anniversary.

Previously known as South Craven Community Action Craven (SCCA), CVS moved from Cross Hills to Skipton in July to be more centrally located for the Craven area.

The group exists to support, develop and represent the community and voluntary sector through information, advice and training as well as front line services such as CareFree (a carers' relief scheme), Health Navigator (promoting voluntary health services) and Community IT Advice and Support.

Chairman Andy Glen told last week's annual general meeting: "It is a tribute to the heritage and hard work of previous support and development organisations such as SCCA, Craven Voluntary Action and Bentham Development Trust that Craven CVS still exists to provide a much needed role in supporting community groups and voluntary organisations in Craven."

Chief executive Milton Pearson, in his report, said: "There is evidence that, in these difficult financial times, many national voluntary organisations that used to have services provided directly in Craven are now doing so from outside the area to save costs.

"It is, therefore, even more important that Craven CVS continues to be available locally particularly for smaller community groups and those seeking to develop social enterprises."

After the annual meeting, a 30th Anniversary celebration cake, made by vice-chairman Hazel Chatwin, was enjoyed by all present.
