FINAL rehearsals are under way for Settle Amateur Operatic Society’s latest musical.

It will stage Guys and Dolls at the town’s Victoria Hall next week.

Mavis Garnett, leader of the props team, said: “The cast are word perfect and rehearsals are a pleasure to attend. This year there are lots of ‘youngsters’ as well as all the ‘regulars’ in the cast.”

Set in mythical New York City in the 1940s, the show captures the spirit of Broadway with vivid characters such as Sarah Brown (Molly Summersgill-Smith), the upright but uptight missionary, and Sky Masterson (Will Palmer), the slick, high-rolling gambler who woos her on a bet and ends up falling in love.

There is also Adelaide (Claire Palmer), the chronically ill nightclub performer, and her devoted fiance, Nathan Detroit (Steven Lawson), desperate to find a spot for his infamous floating game of chance.

Producer Pat Harding and musical director Pam Whitehead have been working hard to bring out the mix of humour, intrigue and romance in the musical.

The show also includes some memorable songs, such as Sit Down You’re Rockin’ the Boat (sung by Robin Knipe as gambler Nicely-Nicely) and Luck be a Lady Tonight.

Performances will take place at 7.30pm from Monday to Saturday, with an additional matinee performance at 2.30pm on the final day. Tickets are available from 01729 825718 or online at settlevictoriahall.org.uk
