Edna Smith from Cowling said she was 'flabbergasted' to be declared Citizen of the Year at the Craven Community Champions Awards 2014.
Edna, who has just celebrated her 81st birthday, was also the winner of the Volunteer of the Year Award at the event held at the Coniston Hotel, Coniston Cold, last night (Thursday).
She was given the accolade for her inspiring work in the local community, particularly with the village's St Andrew's Methodist Church where she has been a tireless treasurer, and recently took part in a fundraising abseil down the side of the church.
This was the third Craven Community Champions Award, run by Craven District Council and the Craven Herald and sponsored by Cirteq, with individual awards sponsored by Angus Fire, Principle Healthcare, Keelham Farm Shop, Coniston Hotel and Country Estate, Broughton Hall Business Park, Peel Entertainment, Yorkshire Housing, Superfast North Yorkshire and Craven District Council.
