THE annual Remembrance Parade and laying of wreaths will take place in Skipton on Sunday.

For the first time, the service at Holy Trinity Church will be relayed to the expected crowds outside.

The parade will form on Bunkers Hill, next to Skipton Law Courts, from around 10.15am and will leave at around 10.40am, travelling along Newmarket Street and up the High Street to the Cenotaph.

The laying of wreaths will take place after the two minutes silence and Last Post – and this will be followed by a service in Holy Trinity Church.

The parade will then re-form and march back down the High Street, along Newmarket Street, onto Bunkers Hill, before falling out adjacent to the Three Links Club at the bottom of Rectory Lane.

For the first time this year, the service in Holy Trinity will be broadcast outside the church on a public address system.

Town centre manager Brett Butler will also be announcing the civic dignitaries and representatives of the armed forces and community groups laying wreaths.

Dave Parker, chief officer of Skipton Town Council, said: “This will be the first time the church service has been relayed outside of Holy Trinity to add to the commentary during the wreath laying.

"We are hugely proud of Skipton’s parade, which continues to grow in size each year and brings together the whole community to remember those who have made the ultimate sacrifice for their country."

He added that the new PA systems would make sure everyone attending could hear what was going on.

Road closures will be in place while the parade is taking place, with drivers warned to expect delays between 10am and 1pm.

The High Street will be closed throughout the cenotaph ceremony.
