ILKLEY coach Rhys Morgan was an angry man after his team’s 25-21 North One East defeat at Dinnington on Saturday.

He made his feelings known to his players after a performance he described as “a bad day at the office.”

“We kept falling into the trap of getting into an arm wrestle with them,” he fumed.

“It was a case of playing into their hands. They have a big pack and were happy for us to do that.

“We also kicked ball away rather than having the confidence to bring our backs into play.

“Whenever we did move the ball into space our backs caused them great problems.”

He added: “What really annoyed me was the fact we got ahead 21-18 late on but weren’t smart enough to see the game out.”

Morgan, who now has more options available to him as the club’s injury problems ease, is threatening changes for Saturday’s home clash with Old Crossleyans.

“The players who played on Saturday know there are others in the squad waiting for their chance and I may well shake things up a bit.”

Last week Morgan had Australian flanker Nick Carolan back in the side after injury and gave a first start to centre James Crossley.

The inclusion of Crossley was hard on Steve Nolson, a fact acknowledged by Morgan. He said: “Steve has responded by working hard in training and his attitude has been first class. Just what you want as a coach.”

Ilkley have this week confirmed that they have signed former Wharfedale winger Simon Horsfall to bolster their squad.
