TWENTY properties had to be evacuated after a Land-Rover caught fire on Skipton High Street on Sunday afternoon.

The vehicle was fuelled by both liquid petroleum gas (LPG) and petrol, raising fears of a possible explosion.

The fire - which is believed to have been caused by an electrical fault - destroyed the engine and damaged the passenger compartment of the Land Rover and damaged the exterior of a vehicle parked alongside.

A spokesman for the North Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service said: "Due to the risk of the LPG, two appliances were mobilised from Skipton and 20 properties were evacuated as a precaution."
