A CRAVEN girl has starred in a music video, along with chart-topping rapper Jay Mya, urging teenagers to think again running away from home.

Amy Harrison, from Gargrave, was selected from 300 teenagers to take one of three lead roles in the charity music video ‘Safe At Last’.

The 16-year-old is a student of the Articulate Speech and Drama school in Ilkley and plays a character who is cyber-bullied before committing suicide.

The video is being shown in schools as part of the charity SAFE@LAST, which offers support to children who have run away from home, are thinking of it or have been thrown out.

Amy said: “My character comes from an abusive family and self-harms as a result of her traumatic experiences.

"It was a really nerve-wracking experience – everything was so professional from the cameras, make up and incredible sets to the way we were directed and the people we acted with.

"I put myself under a lot of pressure to act my character as truthfully as possible because it's not a written story, like in a lot of other acting jobs, it's true and happening around me.

Stacey Burrows, principal of Articulate, said the SAFE@LAST music video offered an incredible opportunity to play a key role in a project which carried a life-changing message for its teenage audience.

“Although tough to watch, the video does have a positive message; that there is an alternative to running away and SAFE@LAST is there to help.

Rotherham-based rapper Jay Mya, who was behind the project, said: “I didn't want to write a clichéd charity track purely to raise money, I wanted to take this a little deeper."

The video is available to view on YouTube http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g_C0b4MXUKY and proceeds from sales of the accompanying single 'Safe At Last' will go directly to the charity.
