A BEREAVED Skipton woman is asking people to join her in a Christmas service in Gargrave which will celebrate the lives of loved ones.

Gill Osmond is backing the Manorlands Hospice Lights of Love Appeal service at St Andrew's Church on Wednesday at 7pm. She recently lost her husband, Paul, who was cared for at Manorlands for the last weeks of his life.

While in the hospice Paul’s first granddaughter was born and staff encouraged his family to take her to the hospice so he could see her.

Gill said: “I think the Lights of Love services are a lovely way to give people time to remember someone special and the precious memories of time spent together.”

People keen to dedicate Lights of Love will be encouraged to give a donation to Manorlands. Everyone making a dedication and a donation will receive a Lights of Love Christmas bauble on which they can write a personal message before hanging it on their tree at home.

Gill added: "The staff at the hospice helped Paul in so many ways, but always with compassion and humour and most importantly they helped him maintain his dignity."

The Oxenhope hospice needs to raise £1.6 million every year to keep providing care.

Senior fundraiser Rachel Cunningham said: “It is important to take the time to remember the people who have played a vital role in our lives. I hope to see as many people as possible joining us on the day to enjoy traditional carols and festive music.”
