VILLAGERS have been consulted on whether their parish council meeting should move from its present location to another building.

The responses - including a 31-name opposition petition - will be scrutinised when Lothersdale Parish Council meets in the village hall today.

Parish councillors have gathered for their meetings in the village hall since 2010, having moved from the village clubhouse where it had been held for a number of years.

They decided to hold the consultation after receiving requests from a number of residents for the meeting to move back to the clubhouse.

Eddie Cullen, Lothersdale Parish Council chairman, said: "There was a request for the meeting to be moved so we decided to hold a consultation. The results of that will be revealed at the next parish council meeting.

"People have replied by text, letter and petition. I myself have no idea what the outcome will be. We will make a decision based on the responses."

He said that they had sought advice from the village hall committee and the trustees of the clubhouse about the suitability of both venues in regards to accessibility for people with disabilities.

Former chairman of the parish council, Stephen Cohen, said he had gathered a petition from residents - 31 in number - who were against the move.

"The main reason is accessibility. Getting to the entrance of the clubhouse is difficult. People can't be pushed up there in a wheelchair and need to be driven by car," he said.
