THE Yorkshire Dales Society has organised a festive event with a difference.
Eminent musicologist Dr Judy Blezzard will provide fascinating insights into the country's favourite Christmas carols at Long Preston Village Hall on Saturday from 2.15pm.
Dr Blezzard will consider how some of the carols originated and whether things were a bit different in Yorkshire. Audience participation will be encouraged during a packed programme featuring singing, dancing, whistling and recitations.
Aimed at all ages, the Christmas fun costs £3 on the door (members get in free) and the price includes tea and mince pies.
Anyone who is free in the morning can also join a free guided winter walk along picturesque Long Preston Beck and overlooking the spectacular wet grasslands of the Deeps.
This moderately easy walk of around 3.5 miles sets off from the village hall at 10.30am. There will be time for lunch in a local pub or cafe, or bring a packed lunch, before the afternoon’s festivities.
Participants are welcome to attend either one or both of the events, no booking needed. Full details can be found on the Society’s website: www.yds.org.uk, email ann.shadrake@yds.org.uk or call the Society’s office on 01756 749400.
