STAFF and students were bowled over when the captain of Lancashire County Cricket Club was the guest of honour at West Craven High School's leavers awards.

Glen, a former pupil at the Barnoldswick school, was proud and honoured to present the awards and GCSE certificates.

As a "team player" himself, he spoke about teamwork and the importance of developing successful relationships with peers and elders.

Glen was very surprised to see retired staff members, who taught him whilst at West Craven, at the presentation.

A number of special awards were presented, along with the examination certificates for last year's year 11 students.

Headteacher Craig Baker said: "Many will remember these young people when they started at West Craven in 2009 or in my case, the privilege of knowing them since I arrived in January 2014.

"It is wonderful to be able to celebrate their successes, to let them know how proud we are of them and to see them as they start their journey into adulthood and their position in society and our community."
