DESPITE the poor weather, Skipton’s Dyneley Barn was full for the fourth in a series of monthly education events for surgery patients.

This time the focus was on dementia and guest speakers were Sara Robinson from Making Space and Philippa Troutman from Pioneer Projects, both specialist organisations providing support for people suffering from dementia.

They spoke to patients and their carers about the illness and strategies to help them understand and manage the illness together.

Representatives from the Alzheimer’s Society and Carers’ Resource were also on hand to talk to people about other support available.

Practice manager Antony Radley said: “It was wonderful to see so many people here.

"This time, we tried to support patients and carers supporting family members with dementia to understand the condition better and develop ideas to offer practical help to individuals and families living with the illness on a day to day basis. We hope it has made a difference.”

Future topics include cancer and give up smoking. Details are available from the surgery.
